Examining the 70-300 Exam

In earlier editions of this column, I've covered three new .NET exams; the Windows applications exam, the Web applications exam, and the XML Web services exam. Now, I'll complete the set by discussing the 'Analyzing Requirements and Defining Microsoft .NET Solution Architectures' exam, the 70-300. Just like that 'Sesame Street' song, 'Which of These Things Is Not Like the Others?', you will find few similarities between this exam and the other three. The type of questions, the style of questions, the use of case studies - everything is different.

Examining the 70-310/320 Exam

In this article, I'll go over the 70-310 exam, XML Web services and Server Components Development with VB.NET, although most of what I have to say applies equally to the 70-320 exam (C#).

In the Beginning...

In one of those odd moments of synchronicity that I have learned to appreciate, I bumped into the editor-in-chief of .NET Developer's Journal during an e-mail exchange. Derek and I worked together several years back on a reasonably successful (but exhausting) book on Microsoft's 70-100 exam, Solution Architectures (NewRiders, 1999). Having taken a sabbatical from writing for a while, I'd been working as a COM architect, Visual Basic technical resource, and 'best practices' evangelist on two highprofile applications for large financial companies. Concurrently, I've been serving on an 'early adopter' task force to create a small proof-of-concept application in VB.NET.

Examining the 70-305 Exam

This article is the first of a series covering the core MCAD exams. In this article, we'll spend some time going over the 70-305 exam, 'Developing and Implementing Web Applications with VB.NET,' although most of what I have to say applies equally to the 70-316 exam (C# version).

Examining the 70-310/320 Exam
(XML Web Services and Server Components Development with VB.NET)

In this article, we'll spend some time going over the 70-310 exam, XML Web Services and Server Components Development with VB.NET, although most of what I have to say applies equally to the 70-320 exam (C#). As is always the case, I do not know if I passed the beta version of this exam. I suspect it will be close, but to be honest, I did not spend as much time prepping for the exam as I usually do. I spent most of the time prior to the exam traveling. (My daughter's volleyball team is fifth in the nation, thanks for asking.)
